Prevent Ad’s from appearing in Wi-Fi devices

2 min read

This is a very easy way to prevent advertisements (ads) when browsing websites and most importantly preventing suspicious popups in apps, programs and games on all your devices and your family’s at home, for free!

There are many services available and frankly this is what I tried and it works very well. I have adopted the service at home and thus have developed a new protection line for me and my family.

All you have to do is to change the DNS settings in your router so that it includes all the devices connected to your home Wi-Fi automatically.

In other words, there is no need to change anything manually on every device or install any programs.

Here, we’re talking about the AdGuard DNS service, which provides several ways to prevent ads. What interesting about this free service in particular and the reason it’s mentioned is that unfortunately to this day so many families still neglect monitoring their children and how they use their phones and devices, given that this service is a very easy way to protect children from suspicious sites and unwanted advertisements.

So here’s how to do it:

It’s very easy, simple and will take about one minute of your time.

  • First of all you’ll need to access your router settings you use at home and change the DNS settings to AdGuard DNS.
Usually you can access it from your browser via a URL (like http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1). You may be asked to enter the password.
(Note: each router has its own way of accessing the control panel or a special DNS add-on, if you’re not sure check the back of the router or contact me for help.)
  • Look for DNS Servers with a field to add details, usually each field is broken into four groups of one to three numbers.

Now AdGuard DNS has two services, so choose the right one for your needs:

The default service:
If you want just to block ads, use these two DNS servers:

176.103.130.130

176.103.130.131

The family service:
This service blocks ads, blocks adult websites, blocks the bad search results in Google, and blocks YouTube comments and other things that do not concern the children.
Use these two DNS servers for the family service:

176.103.130.132

176.103.130.134

If you don’t want to apply the settings for your WiFi you can change the DNS settings for your computer (Windows):

  1. Open Network and Internet settings by right clicking on your WiFi or Ethernet icon in your taskbar.
  2. Click on change adapter options.
  3. Right click on your WiFi or Ethernet thumbnail.
  4. Click on properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 then click on the Properties button.
  6. Change your settings as in the following image.

Congratulations, you are now ad free. Wohoo!

Summary of the topic (TL;DR):

Once you apply the AdGuard DNS service to your router, you wont get ads on any device that connects to the home router through WiFi or Ethernet.

Best of all is it’s free to use and you can add the service in less than a minute and also remove it if you no longer want to use it.
